Happy Easter

It has been a long time since my last post.

In the beginning of March a dear relative passed away, and my husband and I traveled to the west coast to attend his church service and burial.

It was a beautiful service and it was very nice to touch base with other dear relatives.

Unluckily I caught Covid during the travel.
The sick days was not hard - and the only symptom I had in the beginning was a raspy voice, but no sore throat. I got some long time effects that has not left yet, being very tired. I am much better these last days, and this too shall pass.

Sewing has been on the back burner, but I have managed to finish a couple of knittings, while watching to much TV 😄

The small placemats above are also done, and I use them frequently while drinking morning coffee or having a cuppa and a cookie.
Design is from @zeriano on Instagram

Some more hearts has been made into blocks.

I have had most energy in mornings, for housework, baking, knitting and sewing. I have taken advantage of that. Dear husband appreciates a cookie with his afternoon coffee. I do too. I prefer home baked goods when I have time.

Easter has been very nice so far, staying at home. I hope your Easter have been nice too 💛🐤

See you again soon 💓

Happy Sunday

I am looking through some boxes and finds treasures that have been neglected.
This elongated top was once so fun to make and then it sort of landed in a box, with one stripe of border attached. Where did the other strips of border go? I don't know, honestly. It was before our move from house to apartment.
I will pick the one stripe off and add another fabric instead.

Since last weekend's class and other happy events, I am itching to sew more.
I need to finish something too - it is a Need and an Urge 😀

BTW - the stitchery in the middle is from Bronwyn Hayes, Red Brolly.
I tried recently to google her, to find her website, but it looks like it is gone.
I wonder if she is designing anymore or not. Do you know?

Same with these blocks, that once was meant to be a bedspread. 4 blocks done, one lacking 1 - one - strip. What on earth was I thinking?

Well - it will never be covering a bed. You might already know that we do not sleep under quilts in Norway. We use duvets with duvet covers, and quilts are used for decoration purposes on made up beds (mostly)
I do have a single quilt on top of my duvet during winter, for extra comfort and weight.
The 4 blocks will be finished and I have a good plan for what to make from them 💓

This morning I baked bread rolls for our breakfast. They are cold risen, no knead, and with very little yeast. They are baked with wheat flour, oat flour, rolled oats and chia seeds.
Since the dough was cold risen, I made the dough last night.
Cold risen dough is a slow process, but is pays off really well. Next time I will possibly add a little more wheat flour and hold back a little on the oat flour to see where it gets me. Maybe adding some dry spices to the mix too.

Wishing you a happy Sunday, wherever you are

Multitasking under a quilt

2015-02-03 16.59.28

It is nice to sit under a quilt when it is a bit cold in my house and the world is white outdoors.
I am working on some stitchery, and I am doing some hand piecing, and in between I am enjoying some crochet and knitting too.

I have had fun making these double yarn double layers potholders in some cotton yarn I bought in Turkey a couple of years back. It did not really fit for what I intended it too, but it was fun to make these, all from yarn stash, which by the way is shrinking fast.
Using my lovely buttons just adds to the good feeling :-)

I love to bake and these potholders are perfect for handling bread, rolls and buns out of the oven.!

Sweet treats

IMG_20150209_104809

Over the last year I have given up a lot of treats that do me no good at all.

I am lactose intolerant and I am allergic to nuts so store bought cookies and cakes do not come into my house very often.
I am off chocolate too - yes it is true!

That said - a treat every now and then is good - and I do prefer to make them myself when I can.

One of my favourites are these waffles :-)
We call them dry waffles or cake waffles here in Norway.
Where my family comes from they are also known as hard waffles.

I know there are many people who for different reasons keeps away from gluten, and these waffles are gluten free!

Here is my favourite recipe:

2 eggs
125 grams sugar
125 grams melted butter (lactose free butter is an option)
250 grams potato flour
1,5 tea spoon baking powder

Edit: add 1 tea spoon of cinnamon, cardamom or vanilla if you so prefer - maybe even cacao powder......

Beat the eggs with sugar until it is light yellow and thick.
Let the melted butter cool a little and add to the egg mix.
Sift potato flour and baking powder into the batter and mix well.

Let the batter rest for 15 minutes before making waffles.

I use a table spoon and prefer to make small waffles (in the middle of the iron).
Bite size is good :-)

The waffles are soft when you take them out of the iron, so be careful - and they get crisp when they cool, like a crisp cookie.
Cool them on a rack and store them in an air tight cake tin.

do more of what makes you happy

50 days challenge for myself

IMG_20140730_103516

40 days ago I decided to give myself a 50 days challenge, with an average of 2 blocks a day on 2 projects – the one above + Cornelian quilt, which is in the stitchery phase.

Along the way I added a sewing machine project – the angel log cabin quilt.

My usual Tour de Fibre blogging went down the drain with some family matters here,
but I have kept up with my at-least-2-blocks-a-day on Instagram, with daily photos.

As much as I do enjoy writing my blog, the Instagram format is quicker, more like a postcard, and it fitted this challenge so well. If you are into Instagram, my user name is Hanne Schneider and/or hannequilt.

In between I have also done some knitting of dish cloths, the new fun-to-make and so nice to use in the kitchen.

No doubt – I will always be a quilter at heart, but knitting is very  fun and very portable, and with these smaller projects they are done before my arms acts up – win win!

10 days to go on this challenge!

bord_hjerter

The love of my life and dear companion for 32 years has had some serious health issues going on for the last year and a half.
He won the lottery last week  – the new growth / tumour is benign for now, and he will be back for a new ultrasound check-up in 6 months. The growth has held us on our toes for a while now and it is good to be able breath both in and out.
It surely sets everyday life in a new light – everyday life is not boring, it is good!

I do not know if it helps or anything, but I do believe that what you eat makes a difference, and I enjoy making food from scratch. All the chemical additives might make the food last for a long time, but I seriously doubt they are good for us!

Bread rolls with a lot of fiber

Just had to try cinnamon rolls with a half-wholegrain dough too – success!

Oatmeal cookies with real vanilla and raisins. The taste was so right, but they were a bit crumbly. I will try them again. Maybe they need more time in the oven?

Dinner includes a lot of veggies and less starch than before. If we are what we eat, we are getting there, meal by meal.
