A small finish and some good books

tapemeasure

When attending a class with Lynette Anderson in Oslo in November 2009, this tape measure cover was one of the items we could make.
The stitchery was done, all but the heart on the sewing machine - I think I had planned to make the heart in pink, or something……
Since this is my first tape measure cover it took some time to finish, but it was well worth the effort.
My DH is laughing - I guess men wants real plastic instead of fabric covered tools. I can not agree :-)

I love quilting books, embroidery books, books about quilting during the civil war era.

The Anges (Angles) book is embroidery, both cross stitching and line drawings. From Lappemakeriet.
The Tis The Season is Natalie Bird (The Birdhouse) last booklet and I have bought it from Lyn. She sent it in good time before Christmas, but the postal system was slow, so it just got here.
Maybe it can give me a kick start on this year's gifts ?

I got a book for Christmas with a change it if you like card in it, and one book became 2 in the change, with a little money in between.
Julegleder ( Christmas Joy) is a nice Christmas craft book, with a lot of cute gift ideas.
Broderi, 200 broderisting - Embroidery, 200 embroidery stitches - just a got to have and enjoy book :-)
Both are in Norwegian, and can be bought online here if you can not get it in your local book store.

A got to have book for me - A Path To The Civil War - from Lappemakeriet.
Quilt blocks and history in the same book - can it be much better ? :-)

More from Monday

P1040483

What I bought on Monday – almost all are Lynette’s designs, except for the fabrics :-)
The snowman button is extra precious to me – a gift from Lynette. I will start the Christmas cushion soon!

I also bought Lynette’s latest book, Gathering of Crows.

Here are my collection of Lynette Anderson’s booklets and books.

I think it is complete, but I don’t really know, so if you have knowledge about other books, please let me know.

I know that several of these are out of print, so I am keeping them close to me.

I have been collecting Lynette’s patterns for years. As you know, I love her small details and accuracy and have a pile of her patterns too  :-)
I also like the layout on her books and patterns – a feast for the eyes.

I have just been asked which book I like the best, and I just have to say – All of them :-)
All are theme related, and they all are are lovely – both the old ones and the new ones.

I think I saw the Christmas book online recently, even if I know it is out of print.
Try doing a search!
Over the years I have also found out of print goodies on ebay too.

My books  and booklets with year of print are:

All my bears (2000)
An angel’s wish (2001)
Sunflower stitching (2003)
Friends for Christmas (2003)
Bearly stitched (2004)
Rainbow cottage (no year given – it is fairly new)
Gathering of crows (2009 – brand new)

Kathrine’s Quilte Stue has a lot of Lynette’s books and patterns right now.

Did I tell you that my head is still spinning from Monday and all the lovely designs?
I am going away for the weekend and will prep a stitchery later – Lynette’s design off course :-)

I Love Quilt books

P1040155
I absolutely LOVE books about history and quilts - and this one is a gem!

Not a book with patterns, but with a lot of good photos and women history.

P1040158
You know by now I love sampler quilts too - a lot of blocks, a lot of inspiration and challenges.

P1040161
The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt has it all - letters from days gone by, good photos, diagrams for all the blocks and a CD with all the templates for the blocks as PDF files.
P1040160
My conclusion - the more quilt books the merrier :-))

Summer purchases

I have a soft spot for books and patterns, even if I have become more picky over the years.

These are my summer catch.
I have a very soft spot for Lynette Anderson's drawings, so I finally caved in to the Friends For Christmas book.
Maybe I will make something from it too :-)

Oh, lead me not into temptations ......

...... I go there myself :-)

I have been teaching the last evening in my year long, bi-monthly Dear Jane class tonight, and I guess you believe me when I say I am ending up paying for teaching - or should I rather say trading for quilting goods ?
I used more money than I made today though, but who counts ;-)

The Japanese block book - translated to French, is a real beauty.
May Britt made me aware of it in March, and I ordered it then, and got it today. It is both a coffee table book and a good work book. I was not prepared for how thick and heavy it is. A really special book to be enjoyed and thumbed again and again.

The fabrics - 1 meter of the light fabric and 4 x 12", full width of fabric - the last pieces of those fabrics actually.

A stitchery pattern could not be passed either.

Temptation - your smell is sweet and your taste is anticipation !

Seems like a totally white month fabric shopping wise is very hard, but instead of shopping mindless I have plans for what I buy, in the very near future.
I do not shop for saving anymore - I shop for using and enjoying - now :-)
