One of my oldest stitcheries is now a part of a Christmas cushion I will treasure 💚

I bought the stitchery on Ebay long before stitcheries was in the shops here in Norway.
The designer is Bronwyn Hayes / Red Brolly.

I had such a good time stitching the design back then. I did not know what to make from it, and put it in a pretty box. 
A treasure in a box does not shine much....... 

I have had a good time making the stars with my Lemoyne Star ruler, and it has been fun to play with the setting. I have enjoyed making this in to a gem I can enjoy for years to come.

I am still working away on my yarn stash. 
A pair of work socks for my other son in law.
I ran out of black yarn and had to be a little creative to make the toes look good too.

A Saturday finish :-)

Today I finished a gift for someone special.

I used blocks from my Ufo box and finished the cushion with my best fabrics.
I am not saving the best fabrics for last anymore!

The cushion looks so good I would love to have it for myself - it will be a good gift!

The recipient does not read my blog :-)

I tried to send this post from the Blogger app on my phone - it did not work out.
I want to send you a postcard from my vacation, so I have to figure out a way to do it.

I should have been machine quilting

Yesterday I needed a gift and dived into my Ufo box to see what I could find.
I found 4 star blocks that used to belong to the project Annas Lille Veggteppe (Anna's little wall quilt) by the Norwegian designer Annaka.
I nearly finished the project years back - with stitcheries and all - but so lost interest in the quilt, as it did not really appeal to me, style wise.

I also found a big piece of homespun Japanese fabric that was supposed to be the lining of a bag from the Japanese Yoko Saito years back.
The class with Yoko Saito was nice, the bag not so much for me, taste wise.
Now the fabric is a nice back side of the cushion - and I like the masculine look on this cushion, which is good for the recipient.

Maybe it has to do with the combination of too much grey and brown / beige fabrics? The combination is to dull for me……

I love the finished cushion, so it will hopefully be a good gift  :-)

I should have been machine quilting on my May focus project, but I do not feel like it.
I will get a head start on my June focus project instead!

Busy, busy, busy

Going over my photos from the last 3 weeks I find that I really have get quite a lot done, in spite of life being quite busy outside Quilt Corner.
I know I picked some focus projects in my last post, but I often tend to rebel against my own lists ;-)

2 weeks ago we were away for the weekend, visiting friends, and instead of bringing flowers or wine, I decided to turn this LeMoyne star block into a cushion, embellishing it with one of my precious handmade strawberry buttons.
Our friends were happy about the gift – isn’t that the very best moments, when you can make someone happy by something that has made you happy first – a real win win situation :-)

My friend is a farmer and while she was doing her work indoors, I sat outside the barn in the sun, doing crochet.
I do not have a career as farm hand, but I am very patient if I can keep my hands busy :-)

Lace crochet is fun, and I am looking forward to give this as a gift for someone special!

I am soon running out of these handkerchiefs, and to my knowledge they can not be bought anymore – they are from the early 80s - so I am giving them away with a lot of planning who is getting one, and I am definitively keeping some for myself.

I needed a new toiletry purse for our weekend trip, and this was finished just in time.
I really like it when the both fronts and backs are looking good.

The stitchery has been done for a long time and has been in my Ufo box. It is one of the pre-prints one could buy from Tilda some years back. I like it a lot.

Next finish is this gorgeous table topper from Anni Downs.
I Love her designs and this was very fun to do. Not very fast, but stitchery is again a passion after I had my glasses adjusted recently so I can see better.

 

It is birthday season in my dear husband’s family, and these double yarn, double layer potholders now belongs to my dear sister in law, together with some fun kitchen equipment.
I started crocheting a summer top for myself from this yarn, but it did not turn out the way I wanted. The Turkish yarn was a bit fibery, if you know what I mean. Would not drape the right way in a garment, but was super great for potholders. Again I got to use some of my beloved buttons – these I bought in Canada some years back. Again, win win :-)

Never a dull moment – I’ll be back shortly!

I like Mondays!

I like Mondays - I really do !
Mondays are like white paper and a box of crayons, fresh for me to use like I want. New week, new chances :-)

Today has been the first ordinary Monday since mid December - just plain everyday life - ordinary activity, like laundry, cooking, sewing and more, and I have enjoyed every minute of it.

As you see I now have 2 more NI block to my name - one for yesterday and one for today, and now I am not behind anymore :-)

This stitchery cushion is also finished today!
I will count it in May Britt's WISP (work in slow progress) count.


I started it in January 2007, bringing it to hospital to do when waiting for my surgery.
Not a stitch taken that day or the week after, not until I came home and could sit in my own chair, with good light and my candle and coffee :-)

I was not happy with the way the cushion front turned out the other day, so I picked the fabrics off and re-did it with fabrics I got in my Christmas calendar, re-using an old cushion back that looks as good as new.
The backs do not fade and all the button work is already done.

The stitchery is a pre-printed Lynette Anderson design, The Allotment.

Finished :-)

This is finally finished and the sheep cushion front from long time ago, when farm theme was in fashion, is gone. It is so gone I am not even saving it. Back then we had yellow walls in the living room too.

I re-used the buttoned back of the cushion on this one, as it still looks good, in deep wine red with heart buttons. A clever idea. Less work and a good outcome :-)
The cushion is a 14" square.

Second Christmas Day

We count the Christmas Days like this in Norway - Christmas Eve as the celebration time and First Christmas Day 25. December, Second Christmas Day 26. December and so on.
The shops are closed through today and tomorrow is a working day again, also called the big Christmas gift changing day.

All who got doubles or thing they did not enjoy are out in the shops tomorrow.

I find it is time to start showing you the December secrets. I have to edit some of the photos, as they are still on my camera.

This cushion cover was made for a friend who is very fond of the Advent time and decorates with purple in the time before Christmas.

She is often talking about making more in purple, so here is an addition to her collection. I could not get the colours to show very well on the photo.

For the machine embroiderers out there - the Santa at the top is from The Purple Hat. I have used the design a lot and it looks good.
I don't do much machine embroidery anymore, as my old Pfaff 7570 has seen better days, but maybe for next Christmas it can do some more work.
