Progress and plans

 

Some stitching has been going on this week. The snowman stitchery is done, and I am making it in to a candle mat. I planned to give it away for Christmas, but I am not sure now, as I like it so much 🎄
On the other hand, when I like something I make very much, it will also be a good gift for someone on my gift list.
The drawstring bag will be finished during the upcoming week, so I can write it down as my November finish.

3 knittings ......
The socks, for dear daughter #1, will be finished before Christmas, as will the ice blue and short sleeved summer jacket. 
The offwhite knitting in the basket - hopefully I will move it forward, but I do not expect it to be done this year.

1st finish in April

Ever since I bought my first sashiko panel, I have been smitten - with the designs and with the process. 

I love dragonflies as you may know. I love how they look and the symbolism they have all over the world. 

This tote was supposed to be finished in March - it was on my Chookyshed Stitchers 2024 challenge list -  and since it had a deadline (for a gift) I had to just pull my socks up and do it. I finished it on April the 1st.  The tote is travelling to its new owner as we speak 😀
I am happy with how it looks. I love fabric totes and use them all the time myself, instead of plastic bags.

I am aiming for a productive April - more about my focus project(s) shortly 💗

A Saturday finish :-)

Today I finished a gift for someone special.

I used blocks from my Ufo box and finished the cushion with my best fabrics.
I am not saving the best fabrics for last anymore!

The cushion looks so good I would love to have it for myself - it will be a good gift!

The recipient does not read my blog :-)

I tried to send this post from the Blogger app on my phone - it did not work out.
I want to send you a postcard from my vacation, so I have to figure out a way to do it.

I should have been machine quilting

Yesterday I needed a gift and dived into my Ufo box to see what I could find.
I found 4 star blocks that used to belong to the project Annas Lille Veggteppe (Anna's little wall quilt) by the Norwegian designer Annaka.
I nearly finished the project years back - with stitcheries and all - but so lost interest in the quilt, as it did not really appeal to me, style wise.

I also found a big piece of homespun Japanese fabric that was supposed to be the lining of a bag from the Japanese Yoko Saito years back.
The class with Yoko Saito was nice, the bag not so much for me, taste wise.
Now the fabric is a nice back side of the cushion - and I like the masculine look on this cushion, which is good for the recipient.

Maybe it has to do with the combination of too much grey and brown / beige fabrics? The combination is to dull for me……

I love the finished cushion, so it will hopefully be a good gift  :-)

I should have been machine quilting on my May focus project, but I do not feel like it.
I will get a head start on my June focus project instead!

A little post about gifts given

I love to make gifts for special people in my life, like my two grandaunt children :-)

Sometimes I make the gifts a long time ahead of the gifting day, and forget to blog about them later.

 

It was fun to alter the What's In Your Bag pattern to fit crayons and pens for L and J.

 

A nice professional looking label adds to the overall look too :-)
I love these labels - one "old" and one new, ordered from Sweden.

Before we went to USA in November 2015 I made this new toiletry bag for May Britt,

 

Off course I had to make one for myself too :-)
The stitcheries are from Bronwyn Hayes - Red Brolly.
The rest is my own idea, and I had so much fun with the quilting.

 

These 2 pincushions I made before Christmas 2015 to gift to two of my special friends.
The designs and buttons are from Lynette Anderson.
A quilter can never have to many pincushions, right?

I love to make gifts!

I love to make gifts - for birthdays, for Christmas or just because :-)

May Britt had celebrated her birthday in the end of September and we were travelling to USA in November 2015.
She had not yet got her present, and I found that the airport was the perfect place to be presented with a surprise gift.

One always need a new toiletry bag when travelling, right?

The stitchery is designed by Bronwyn Hayes - Red Brolly. I have not seen it in any Norwegian shop. When I found Bronwyn Hayes' designs online many years ago, I was smitten with her drawings and I hunted them on Ebay.

May Britt was very surprised - success!

For hostess gifts for our lovely hostesses Debra and Colleen, we decided to make them our traditional Advent Calendar, so they had a special treat to enjoy through December.

We gave 2 gift each to both calendars and above is one of mine - the blue and beige pouch is for Colleen and the red one is for Deb.

I am happy that both Deb and Colleen liked their pouches :-)

Right before our trip I bought these cool name tags. I enjoy using them.

It was also fun to make these 2 pincushions - one for my friend Val - and she got her gift just because, in Shipshewana,
and one for a birthday gift for a special friend here at home.
Designer of stitchery and buttons is Lynette Anderson.

Off course I needed a new toiletry bag for our USA travel too :-)

 One can never have to many toiletry bags, ever!

Time flies when you are having fun (and are being busy)

As you may know, I love to make gifts for the special people in my life,
and this is a gift for my dear niece.
She was very happy with the gift and I am so blessed that she enjoys hand made gifts.

I made a see through bag for May Britt earlier in the summer too, as a Tour de Fibre prize, and filled it with some quilt necessities.
I could not blog it before she had received it, right? :-)

And finally, one for me :-)

.

It fits so nicely into my purse, bringing some English Paper Piecing and maybe a dish cloth knitting too.

I so enjoy picking colours and fabrics to make each recipient happy.
Conclusion: I can not make a pile of anything, for sale or for the drawer. 
I enjoy the personalization process far to much :-)

Busy, busy, busy

Going over my photos from the last 3 weeks I find that I really have get quite a lot done, in spite of life being quite busy outside Quilt Corner.
I know I picked some focus projects in my last post, but I often tend to rebel against my own lists ;-)

2 weeks ago we were away for the weekend, visiting friends, and instead of bringing flowers or wine, I decided to turn this LeMoyne star block into a cushion, embellishing it with one of my precious handmade strawberry buttons.
Our friends were happy about the gift – isn’t that the very best moments, when you can make someone happy by something that has made you happy first – a real win win situation :-)

My friend is a farmer and while she was doing her work indoors, I sat outside the barn in the sun, doing crochet.
I do not have a career as farm hand, but I am very patient if I can keep my hands busy :-)

Lace crochet is fun, and I am looking forward to give this as a gift for someone special!

I am soon running out of these handkerchiefs, and to my knowledge they can not be bought anymore – they are from the early 80s - so I am giving them away with a lot of planning who is getting one, and I am definitively keeping some for myself.

I needed a new toiletry purse for our weekend trip, and this was finished just in time.
I really like it when the both fronts and backs are looking good.

The stitchery has been done for a long time and has been in my Ufo box. It is one of the pre-prints one could buy from Tilda some years back. I like it a lot.

Next finish is this gorgeous table topper from Anni Downs.
I Love her designs and this was very fun to do. Not very fast, but stitchery is again a passion after I had my glasses adjusted recently so I can see better.

 

It is birthday season in my dear husband’s family, and these double yarn, double layer potholders now belongs to my dear sister in law, together with some fun kitchen equipment.
I started crocheting a summer top for myself from this yarn, but it did not turn out the way I wanted. The Turkish yarn was a bit fibery, if you know what I mean. Would not drape the right way in a garment, but was super great for potholders. Again I got to use some of my beloved buttons – these I bought in Canada some years back. Again, win win :-)

Never a dull moment – I’ll be back shortly!

3rd Advent Sunday

 

Miss Cat was enjoying "cat TV" on broad screen, also known as the living room window, watching the birds in the trees.
She made funny noises too, nearly like a frog  :-)

Hearts is the theme in the sewing corner this weekend, and I was so lucky finding a zip lock bag with pre cut hearts from the long gone shop Lille Stasjon in May Britt's town Elverum.
The shop was sold a couple of years back, and it has got a new name, a new staff, a new location and a new style.
It was nostalgic to work with these hearts, reminiscing the old shop and the lovely, skilled ladies working there.

Another gift sent and received :-)

Another important person in my life is celebrating her birthday this week,
and the yellow project from earlier has arrived at her house :-)
I did some alterations to the pattern, and I think this table runner turned out great.

The roses was a gift from my DH before the weekend - just because.
I think I will keep him :-))
