Busy week

A finish, an Olympic Gold medal in the Quilt Corner!
An Angels Story quilt is finally done, and I love the finished quilt.

If you are on the outlook for the book An Angels Story  by Anni Downs here in Norway, I know the shop Quiltefryd in Tønsberg has it in stock.
Just give them a call – I know they ship very fast.

In case you did not know, Anni Downs is coming to Norway 8. May, giving a one day class and a lecture in Oslo.

Sometimes the very best laid plans in Quilt Corner are interfered by speed bumps in life,
and it has been like that around here for the last week and a half.

I am hoping for better times ahead – keep your fingers crossed for that, please :-)

 

I did this quilt Quilt-As-You-Go style, which made it manageable to do it on my own sewing machine.

 

First I quilted all 4 sections.

Next I joined 2 and 2 sections.

This specific quilt has a little “quirk” in the final joining process that does not lend it to quilt as you go just like that, but I though I could do it anyway – yes, I am stubborn ;-)
Check the diagram below, which gives the “hole” above.

I will share my work-around with you, so you can do it too :-)

First, with a fine scissors, cut back the excess batting in the “hole”. I cut back as much as I could. Next – the 5 by 2 square piece had the seam allowance folded in and I appliqued it in place.

Once the applique is done it will not show!
I use Superior Bottom Line very fine thread.

Here is the hole from the back side of the quilt after the front applique is done.
Next I cut a piece of cotton batting a little bigger than the front applique and I fold backing fabric around the edges, pinned it in place and appliqued it in place.
I do use thin cotton batting – so a little overlap does not make any difference.

 

There are always some threads to trim, even when you think you are all done.

 

I guess you have had some strange requests over the years too,
if you are in to sewing or crafts.
No, I do not do curtains or men’s jackets or things like that anymore.

I could not turn this one down though – a friend needed a dozen of covers for under-arm-crutches, from white fake leather, with Velcro closings.

He was happy with the result!

After having worked with the big quilt, a little lace crochet was nice to do as a small Olympic Gold medal, and now I am all prepared for a birthday gift for someone special in a few months.

Angel progress

Half a quilt done :-)
The other half is still in 2 pieces, but my goal is to join them today.
Quilt as you go is not very fast, but it makes a big quilt manageable.
I am aiming for Gold this week :-)

I have had a few questions about where to get the book here in Norway.

We saw the sun today, for the first time in weeks (for more than a couple of minutes)
Miss Cat is sunbathing and giving her fur a thorough cleaning in the sun.
I think we will get spring this year too, if not right now, it is within reach :-)

Sometimes…..

Sometimes it is hard to keep focused, so I exercise my right as a woman to change my focus from one project to another ;-)

I know I said that the Life is Beautiful quilt was to be my focus project through the Olympic Winter Games, but I sort of needed a break from these blocks.

Sometimes we all need some angels in our lives :-)

I finished the 4 parts of An Angels Story quilt through Tour de Fibre last summer, and they have been living in a box since then.
It is time to finish this quilt, for several reasons -
I Need a finish!
I love this quilt!
I need some angels in my life! 
Anni Downs will visit Norway in May, and I will attend her 1 day class!

I know I have several projects I need to do something about shortly,
but i think shortly can start tomorrow ;-)

More Tour de Fibre

I am still working on my angel quilt, and it is coming along
– and it is fun to see the progress :-)

I have sorted through all my fabrics and I think I have found enough of the right kind of blues to finish the angel quilt without buying or having to ask friends for help.

Some days I have done like Miss Cat – resting

The Ring of Roses table runner top is done, with my own colours. It was nice to do the stitchery out on the veranda when the weather was nice.

I needed a new toiletry purse, and this one was fun to do :-)
The stitchery I found in my block / Ufo box. It is my own drawing,
and you can find it in this post, if you will do it too.

Today I made this little makeup purse.
You can see it is not big if you know the strips of fabrics are cut 2,5”.
It is flying by snail mail to a new owner as we speak :-)

Tour de Fibre–day 6 and day 7

Part 2 of 4 of An Angels Story is done :-)

It is fun to see this quilt slowly coming together.
I am planning to quilt it myself, in sections. As you see, the parts are not the same size or shape, and it will be a centre set in, at the end. Doing this quilt Quilt-as-you-go might turn out to be a challenge, but I think I will go for it anyway :-)
Another challenge is if I do have enough of the pale blue fabrics to make all the squares…..
Some of the fabrics are rather old and I can not buy more.
Never a dull moment in the Quilt Corner!

Tour de Fibre–day 2 and day 3

Sunday we were able to sit on the veranda for a while, and even if it was not very hot, it was good to get some fresh air.

From a distance we could watch the yellow sparrows feeding their young ones and giving them lessons of life.

May Britt is picking embroidery floss for a stitchery.

One of May Britt’s old Ufos – it deserves to be finished!

This is May Britt’s An Angels Story quilt top. We did the blocks together in 2007 / 2008. The blocks we have looks nearly identical – the framing colours makes all the difference!

Monday morning – these are the Ufos I have picked for this week.
I am not sure how much I can get done, but I will do my best to move all of the forward.

These are the upper left quarter of my An Angels Story quilt

The first block framed – I am doing a happy dance – I love the colours and how it turned out!
I hope to finish this quilt top through the Tour de Fibre :-)

2 small finishes

I am still in the slow lane with my right shoulder and neck, but I am doing steps forward nevertheless :-)
While stitching I am listening to books on CDs.

Yesterday I finished the stitchery for the sewing bag I am making for a Christmas gift, and today I finished the stitchery on the last angel block on the An Angels Story quilt :-)

I have not decided definitively on what colours to use for the sashings yet - I think it will be green - or maybe blue - or maybe both........... :-)
